• You should always start paddle boarding in flat and calm water. Make sure the board feels comfortable but not tippy especially when you are standing on it without any forward movement. • When gripping the paddle, make sure one hand is at the top and the other at the center of the shaft. Hold the paddle in front of you with your elbows bent at an angle of 90 degrees. That way, you can count on more comfortable space when paddling.
• When starting out, kneel down on the paddle board and take some strokes on either side as you move into deeper water. Stand up on one foot then move on to the other. Stay in the middle part of the board with your feet being parallel to the stringer at a shoulder width distance. Your knees should be at a slight bend and your core should be centered across the board
• When paddling, your bottom arm should always be straight and relatively still. To extend the paddle forward, pull the top arm towards your body. Extend your reach by rotating your top shoulder.
• To move forward with the paddle, you should insert it into the water as far forward as possible then bury it into the water. Rather than pulling it through the water, you should be pulling past it with the paddle board.
• If you want to stay in a straight line, take some strokes to one side and do the same for the other side. Once you change sides on the paddle, make sure you switch your arm locations as well for the best results.
